Nicknamed "Tip Toe" Triptow by legendary Chicago broadcaster Jack Brickhouse, Dick Triptow was a standout DePaul basketball player who played in the NBA and wrote the book, “The Dynasty that Never Was,” chronicling Chicago's first professional basketball championship. He went on to a successful 38-year career as a teacher and coach at both high school and collegiate levels.
I remember Dick being tremendously fast with long strides who could take off at the free throw line, glide to the basket and score on a shot inside. He would be at full speed on his second step. That made him very hard to guard.
