VALERIE C. JOHNSON

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

Associate Professor of Political Science Valerie C. Johnson wholly embodies DePaul’s Vincentian mission through her advocacy of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI). Johnson has served the DePaul community in many capacities—faculty, past president of Black Leadership Coalition, political science department chair, Black Student Union advisor and most recently as a Presidential Diversity Fellow for the 2021-22 academic year. As a fellow, she sought to clarify DePaul's DEI efforts and “ensure the entire university fully understands what we mean when we say we are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion." Outside of DePaul, she has served on numerous organizations dedicated to racial and social justice.
Dr. Johnson is deeply committed to DEI and demonstrates her passion for racial justice in her research and service to DePaul. She is a strong advocate and champion on social justice issues and equity. She will bring a depth of knowledge and understanding to the role.
